Should I buy a Communion Dress On-Line?

Just search on-line for a Communion dress and it looks like there are some outstanding values. But there are many downsides and risks.

You and your little girl will have fun going to the racks and looking at all the dresses. You can both pick out the ones you like and she can try them on. Maybe her grandma or her Godmother will be there too. There is nothing like seeing the look on your little girl's face when she sees herself in the store mirror with a beautiful dress on that she loves. Picking out the headpiece is also fun. You can compare all the different ones that can match your dress perfectly.  You can match the other accesories too. At April's Fine Baby Apparel she even gets a free cross when you buy a dress. These are memories that will last forever. Years later, when walking through Bellmore Village, she will say, "remember when we bought my Communion dress at April's, mom?"

If you buy on-line you are never sure of the reputation of the vendor. Maybe the dress is used. Or it may be slightly yellowed. You may not notice the yellow until you see the dress next to a fresh dress on Communion day. You can't touch the dress, or smell the newness. While you might find a good value, It can be a bit of a gamble. Also, the best manufacturers don't permit on-line sellers to undercut retail stores. These manufacturers often will list retailers that sell their products.

What about buying on an auction site? Most likely the dress will be used. Even if they say it has tags you can't be sure it is new.  The seller may own a tagging gun and tags. Even if it is new you don't know how the dress was stored. It could be in a private home with smokers, pet smells or even cooking odors.

There are some other good things about shopping locally. Your local stores are the ones that support local organizations, like PTAs, Girl Scouts etc. They are also the ones that sponsor community free events. In Bellmore Village, the merchants sponsor an Easter Parade, a Halloween Parade and a Christmas Tree lighting, all with free give-aways for the kids. Plus, local sales taxes support your town and help lower your property taxes.

What a wonderful time in your daughter's life. You want her special day to be perfect. Shopping for her dress and headpiece should be fun for both of you!

Choose a store with a nice selection, good prices and friendly service. Some stores push you in and out. They are mob scenes, as though they are giving something away. They are not interested in girls that are hard to fit because it may take a little more time. Some stores don't even have mirrors because they don't want you to spend too much time making a decision.

At April's, everyone gets personal attention. We carry 1/2 sizes, small sizes and large sizes. If necessary you can order a special size dress. After settling on your dress, the next step is to find a matching headpiece and veil. We carry the finest selection of headpieces, many are custom made. April will help you find the perfect match. We have many mirrors so you can take your time looking over your choices.

Then, you may be interested in shoes, tights or socks, a cape or bollero jacket (many custom ones).  We also carry purses, missals, rosary beads and gloves. And every girl that finds her dress at April's gets a free cross! A $13.99 value.

We have been told by our customers that our dresses are about $20.00 less than our competitors. So feel free to check them out before coming to Aprils Fine Baby Apparel

While in Bellmore Village, check out our quaint town. You will want to return for another visit.

Buying a Boys Communion Suit

It seems that girls get all the attention for Communion apparel but your little boy will look great too in his new blue suit. Most boys are wearing blue suits with white ties and white shirts. You can also wear a white suit with a white tie and white shirt.

The first thing to do is to decide the style suit you prefer. There are double breasted, single vested and three piece suits that come with a vest. You need to try on the jacket first. It is difficult to tailor a jacket if it doesn't fit. Make sure the shoulders fit and the jacket buttons. It should be comfortable. The sleeves can be shortened, but the buttons may have to be moved. You shouldn't let out the sleeves to lengthen them because it is hard to get rid of the crease at the original sleeve length.

Next, try on the pants. Make sure they fit in the waist. At Aprils Fine Baby Apparel, in Bellmore Village, all the pants have elastic waists as well as belt loops. This makes it easier to accomodate all different waist sizes. Don't worry too much if the pant legs are too long; it is simple to have them shortened.

You will then need a shirt. Often, you will need the next larger size shirt, depending on the brand. April\'s offers a white shirt, tie and suit package for a savings over separate purchases. In addition you may want a belt, socks, armband, missal and rosary beads.

While in Bellmore Village take some time to check out the other nice shops.
